People who have fled the war in Ukraine, settled in our country and have been granted temporary protection status may already apply to the municipalities of the declared residence or place of residence for one-time settlement allowance and monthly compensation for upbringing of the child under 6 years of age.

"Already in the first days, war refugees receive support: those who have nowhere to stay are provided with housing, as well as food and hygiene products. They are also provided with psychological assistance. After receiving an individual decision that they are granted temporary protection in Lithuania, aliens acquire the right to one-time allowance, and those with young children receive a monthly compensation for the child's upbringing“, –  says Monika Navickienė, Minister of Social Security and Labor.

The one-time settlement allowance is intended to purchase basic necessities already in a self-rented housing. The allowance is available to people over the age of 18 who are employed or self-employed, registered with the Employment service, studying under a general education program or under a formal vocational training program and studying at a higher education institution. This also applies to people of retirement age, pregnant women and single parents raising children under the age of 3, carers, grandparents, people with disabilities who are unable to work. A prerequisite for receiving the installation allowance is to have an officially registered lease for at least 6 months.

The amount of the allowance depends on the number of people enjoying temporary protection living together.

IMPORTANT. A one-time settlement allowance can also be used to pay a deposit for rent.

It is hoped that this allowance will encourage Ukrainians to become independent society members more quickly, help them to buy the missing basic necessities in rented housing, and free up temporary accommodation for newly arrived war refugees.

Compensation for pre-school education for children under 6 is intended to facilitate the integration of children into pre-school education enabling parents to look for work and to work.

Ukrainian families raising school-age children who start school in Lithuania are entitled to free school meals and, at the start of the new school year, to assistance in purchasing school supplies.

WHERE TO APPLY? To receive a one-time settlement allowance or monthly compensation for the child's upbringing, a Ukrainian shall submit an application in the prescribed form to the municipality in whose territory the person has declared his/her place of residence or actually resides.

The municipal administration usually makes a decision on granting a one-time to settle an alien or paying monthly compensation for the child's upbringing within 5 business days of receiving the application and all the necessary documents.

The benefits will be financed from the state budget.
