Jūratė Zailskienė – the new Minister of Social Security and Labour
Following the confirmation of the 20th Government, Jūratė Zailskienė assumes the position of Minister of Social Security and Labour.
"I will strive to continue the work started by my predecessor, now Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, and the Social Democrats in the field of social protection. Particular attention will be paid to reducing the social exclusion of vulnerable individuals, promoting the inclusion and well-being of older people in public life, and improving family policy. One of the key priorities will be to improve access to housing for young families," says Minister of Social Security and Labour Jūratė Zailskienė.
Jūratė Zailskienė holds a degree in history and teaching of history and social sciences from Vilnius University. She has accumulated experience in both the business sector and public administration. In 2023–2024, Zailskienė served as Vice-Mayor of Prienai District Municipality, in 2019–2023 as Director of Administration of the same municipality, and in 2015–2019 as an advisor to the Mayor.
Since 2024, Jūratė Zailskienė has been a member of the Seimas and belongs to the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party parliamentary group. During the current term, she served as Deputy Chair of the Committee on Social Affairs and Labour.
Previous civic engagement: volunteer for the Lithuanian Red Cross Society; volunteer lecturer at the Universities of the Third Age in Prienai and Marijampolė; co-author and author of children’s history books and activity books; and a member of the folklore ensemble Raskila.
