Inga Ruginienė – Minister of Social Security and Labor
Following the approval of the 21st Government’s composition, Inga Ruginienė has taken office as Minister of Social Security and Labor.
“We will continue to work consistently to ensure that every person in our country feels safe, respected, and has the opportunity to live and work with dignity. Our goal is for working people to feel valued, for seniors to be able to live with dignity, for families to raise their children in a safe environment, and for social assistance to be easily accessible to everyone who needs it. Together with our social partners, we will seek solutions that strengthen people’s trust in the state and foster greater social justice,” - says Inga Ruginienė, Minister of Social Security and Labor.
Prior to this, I. Ruginienė served as the country’s Prime Minister for nearly a year, beginning in September 2025. Since December 2024, she has served as Minister of Social Security and Labor in the 19th Cabinet of Ministers.
I. Ruginienė holds a master’s degree in labor law from Mykolas Romeris University, a master’s degree in public health from Vilnius University, and a bachelor’s degree in forestry management from Kaunas College of Forestry and Environmental Engineering. I. Ruginienė has also gained experience serving as president of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation, vice president of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), vice president of the European Region of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-PERC), and president of the Lithuanian Federation of Forest and Forest Industry Workers’ Trade Unions.
Since 2024, I. Ruginienė has served as a member of the Seimas, elected from the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party’s slate.
Community involvement: She served as a first aid instructor and volunteer with the Lithuanian Red Cross Society (LRK), and from 2016 to 2019, she was also a member of its board. From 2021 to 2023, she was a member of the council at the Kaunas College of Forestry and Environmental Engineering.
