Protection of children rights

The Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania states that the Seimas and the President define the state policy on children rights protection and the Government ensures implementation of the policy. The Ministry of Social Security and Labour is responsible for managing the protection of children rights.

A child is an individual below the age of 18. Due to their special status, children are a specific group of people. Like the adults, they enjoy the same natural, political and civic rights. However, because of their legal incapacity children cannot represent their rights themselves. Parents or other legal representatives of the child or the state protect or represent his rights in cases related to public interests.
